This old school in Ban Mae Phong, Chiang Rai, Thailand, has been unused for many years. Like many rural schools, it closed as the number of students gradually declined.

For the local community, however, it has always been more than just a building. It was once a place where children learned, neighbours met, and community activities took place.

When our CEO, Regan, first came across the old school, he saw the possibility of giving it a new purpose.

That idea was only possible because we had spent years building trust with the community.

For many years, Digital Alchemy has worked alongside communities across Chiang Rai through initiatives including Baan Saan Rak, which we have supported since 2007, followed by Karma Cycle and The L.I.F.E. Program. Each project has had a different focus, but they have all shared the same approach. We listen first, work together with local people, and build solutions that respond to the community’s needs.

Over time, people have come to know us. They have seen us working alongside their communities, not just once, but over many years. Those relationships have built the trust that allows us to explore new opportunities together.

Today, we hope this old school can once again become a place that brings people together. A place where local people can learn new skills, share ideas, and create new opportunities for the future.

The school will also provide new opportunities for our employees to volunteer alongside the community, continuing a tradition that has been part of Digital Alchemy for many years. By sharing their skills, knowledge, and experience, they can contribute in meaningful ways while also learning from local people and building lasting relationships.

Bringing this school back to life will take time. Like every community project, it will grow through collaboration, patience, and trust.

Because sometimes, the greatest opportunity doesn’t begin with a new building.

It begins with relationships that have been built over many years.
